Angry, Pissed, and just more Angry

I am appalled when I hear folks say New Orleans should not be rebuilt. They have no idea what they are talking about. The "thugs" that ran amuck are just that "thugs."

Our city, the city that is hundreds of years old with more history and heritage than we can ever imagine belongs to us. Amazing how they never questioned, not once, if they will re-build New York, or Biloxi, or Los Angeles. What makes New Orleans any different? NOTHING.

Can we help that New Orleans is in a fish bowl? Can we change that? Of course not.

Do we rebuild.....YES, without a doubt.

the question is, can we afford to rebuild a city that is below sea level and surrounded by water? Every levee has to be completely rebuilt and raised up to cat 5 levels. That is 42 miles of levee, now where do you think that money is coming from and who is going to pay for it. This doesn't even look at the question of the citizens in the city and who will pay for their structures to be rebuilt. So, unfortunately the question is not simply to rebuild or not rebuild, but can we afford to rebuild?. New Orleans will never be the same and quite frankly will be a much smaller community when unfortunately they do rebuild it. The historical sites will be preserved and history will add another chapter to the city's legacy. The city is in the hands of the federal government and until they consent for the funds, the city can not be rebuilt. And, so another round of Louisiana politics races into history as inept and disgraceful. The denizens of the area are scattered and thrown and the levees are broken and gone. Good bye New Orleans as we knew it and good ridance for the most part.
